plenary symposia and lectures, as well as a general program for a wider audience. For the first time in its history, the Congress presents a special topic of interest that will be the focus of a series of lectures and symposia:

“Logic and Science Facing the New Technologies”

The four main sections of the Congress will be:

A. Logic
B. General Philosophy of Science
C. Methodological and Philosophical Issues of Particular Sciences
D. Methodological and Philosophical Issues in Technology

Also for the first time, there will be a call for contributed symposia in addition to the call for contributed papers.

DL 2011 – The 24th International Workshop on Description Logics

The 24th International Workshop on Description Logics (DL 2011)
Barcelona, Spain. July 13th to July 16th, 2011

The DL workshop is the major annual event of the description logic research community. It is the forum at which those interested in description logics, both from academia and industry, meet to discuss ideas, share information and compare experiences.
DL 2011 will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from July 13 to July 16, 2011.
DL 2011 will be colocated with IJCAI 2011, the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence.

Workshop Scope

We invite contributions on all aspects of description logics, such as:

  • foundations of description logics, including expressive power, decidability and complexity of reasoning, novel inference problems, and reasoning techniques for solving these problems;
  • extensions of description logics, including, but not limited to, closed-world and nonmonotonic reasoning, defaults, epistemic reasoning, temporal and spatial reasoning, procedural knowledge, and query languages;
  • integration of description logics with other formalisms, such as object-oriented representation languages, database query languages, constraint-based programming, logic programming, and rule-based systems;
  • use of description logics in applications or areas such as ontology engineering, ontology languages, databases, semi-structured data, document management, natural language, learning, planning, semantic web, and grid computing;
  • building systems based on description logics, with special emphasis on optimization and implementation techniques; and
  • tools that exploit description logic reasoning, such as ontology editors, database schema design, query optimization, and data integration tools.

DL 2011 will be held at the Auditorium of Edifici Imagina, Avinguda Diagonal 177, Barcelona.

A classification of tools for learning Logic

TICTTL – Third International Congress on Tools for Teaching Logic

1-4 June 2011, Salamanca, Spainhttp://logicae.usal.es/TICTTL/

Submission of Papers: 8th December 2010.
Notification of Acceptance: 1st February 2011.
Final Camera-Ready Submission Due: 1st March 2011

The Third International Congress on Tools for Teaching Logic (TICTTL) will focus on a variety of topics including: logic teaching software, teaching formal methods, logic in the humanities, dissemination of logic courseware and logic textbooks, methods for teaching logic at different levels of instruction (secondary educuation, university level, and postgraduate), presentation of postgraduate programs in logic, e-learning, logic games, teaching argumentation theory and informal logic, and pedagogy of logic.

We are inviting submissions on the topics above, or on any other aspect of teaching logic or logic teaching software. We prefer 6 or 8 page submissions. Submissions must not exceed 8 pages. It is expected that each accepted paper be presented at the conference by one of its authors. Papers must be submitted electronically at the TICTTL EasyChair website, submission instructions will be posted in later CFPs.

The proceedings of TICTTL include invited papers, accepted full papers, and accepted 2-page short papers. The invited papers and full papers will be published prior to the conference as a volume in the LNAI-FOLLI series, a subseries of Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science. The short papers will be available prior to the conference on the conference website and will be included in the conference booklet.

effectiveness & efficiency in e-learning

Effectiveness was considered in two respects: the amount of progress made and goal attainment.

Efficiency was defined ‘‘objectively’’ as the time taken to attain the goal, as well as ‘‘subjectively’’ in terms of learners’ retrospective evaluation of learning track efficiency (that is do they think studying the units of learning in a different order would have led to a better understanding of the content?).
